Kids On Campus brings inner city youngsters
(fourth to twelfth grade), to the Boston College Campus for "one-to-one"
tutoring from volunteer BC students. The youngsters have
the opportunity to use the facilities of Boston College,
receive academic assistance in a subject selected by the parents,
and they participate in special activities scheduled during the
year. Some of our current BC tutors were once "kids"
tutored in this program.
"One-to-one" tutoring provides an opportunity
for development of strong personal relationships. The BC Campus
introduces youngsters to a world of educational and cultural resources
beyond their immediate neighborhoods and schools.
Close contact with the families, school teachers,
and tutors, along with report cards and personal observation, allows
Kids On Campus to help develop educational plans, and evaluate the
progress of each child throughout the year.
Kids On Campus requires serious
commitment from parents, tutors and youngsters.
All youngsters and their parents are interviewed
prior to acceptance. We want students who are motivated and will
seek help from their tutor. Motivated youngsters develop into mature
and responsible individuals who make education a priority in their
lives. The tutors are interviewed undergo orientation and training
prior to assignment. Many of our tutors have participated for several
years. They are committed and highly motivated towards helping youngsters
succeed.
Kids On Campus provides free,
safe transportation to and from the Boston College Campus.
